Ku Li challenges Umno presidential candidates to debate

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said he was ready to debate Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Khairy Jamaluddin, and challenged the other contenders to do the same.

“If I dare to explain (on issues), others (candidates) should follow and be willing to do the same,” he said through a special interview with Awani last night.

Seven candidates including Tengku Razaleigh have submitted their names to contest the Umno president’s post in the upcoming June 30 Umno election.

The six others are Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Khairy Jamaluddin, Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz, Rosile Saat, Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak resigned from the post following the defeat of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General-Election.

Ahmad Zahid is currently acting Umno president. Khairy who is the Umno Youth chief made a surprise announcement to contest the Umno presidency.

He posted his nomination forms for the post on his Instagram account and the confirmation came hours after a news portal reported that the outgoing Umno Youth chief was in the process filling his nomination papers for the party polls at the end of the month.
