Account freeze not impacting Penang Umno operations, says Reezal

KEPALA BATAS: Penang Umno’s operations have not been impacted by the freezing of one of its bank accounts in ongoing investigations.

State Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said this was due to the fact that the previous leadership had managed its operations well.

“We are aware that Umno’s bank accounts in many states have been frozen,” he said after launching the Kepala Batas Umno division delegates conference here today.

“Now, one of the state Umno’s bank accounts have been frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and we are cannot determine if it has any sources from the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) or not,”

Reezal, who retained his post, said he had asked state Umno secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir to cooperate with the authorities in the investigations.

“I am sure he will give his full cooperation.”

It was reported that MACC had frozen 900 bank accounts in its ongoing probe into the 1MDB scandal.

On the party polls, Reezal said the debate between the three presidential candidates had featured proposals, views and offers for a better Umno in future.

“What is important is the fact that whoever wins will not be treated like a god. He will not be beyond criticism and will not have absolute power,” he said.
