Vigneswaran is new MIC president

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara President, Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran has won the MIC President’s post.

The former party vice-president won the post uncontested after he secured a total of 1,808 nominations on Saturday.

He takes over the party top post from Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

The former Health Minister had after the 14th General Election (GE 14) indicated that he would let go of the party's top post.

In GE14, the MIC had one of its poorest outing in a general election, winning only two Parliament and three state seats.

It only retained the Cameron Highlands and Tapah parliamentary seats as well as the Jeram Padang (Negri Sembilan) and the Tenggaroh and Kahang state seats (Johor).
