Najib: Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah gathering proof that people are unhappy with PH govt

SHAH ALAM: The Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah gathering at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru is proof that the people are unhappy with the Pakatan Harapan.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this was because the government has begun to threaten Islam and the special rights of Malays and the bumiputera.

He said the gathering was a sure sign that PH’s support was being eroded.

“Muslims and Malays are concerned by what is happening in our country after (the) May 9 (general election), where the status and future of Islam and the position of the Malays is being threatened.

“The people have risen by themselves and have shown their anger that this is happening as they are not comfortable with it,” he said after a walkabout in Kampung Jalan Kebun to see for himself the situation there in the run-up to the Sungai Kandis by-election next weekend.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah mansor and Barisan Nasional candidate for the by-election, Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.

Asked to comment on the presence of former socio-cultural adviser to the government Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim at the gathering, Najib said as someone who always fought for Bahasa Melayu, it was necessary for him to protest in public.

“His credibility would be called into question if he did not attend the gathering and give voice to his protests,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lokman questioned the government’s action in focusing assistance merely to one community.

“Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik made a U-turn when he said that independent Chinese schools would receive allocations from the government. If these schools can get assistance from the government, what about independent Tamil schools, religious schools and the like?”
