PETALING JAYA: Ease of movement for the disabled community (OKU) in multi-storey residential and clinic areas around Kelana Jaya and Petaling Jaya will be among the main issues that will be championed by Pas’ Seri Setia by-election candidate Dr Halimah Ali.
The medical doctor said she views the matter seriously and sees it as an essential need for local residents especially those staying in apartment’s which do not possess the necessary lift facilities.
“I had also received complaints that there are health clinic’s here which do not have disabled people's facilities to help elderly people especially those who had to use wheelchairs, who fund it difficult to seek physiotherapy treatment.
“Insya-Allah, I will be the voice of the people in the state assembly and resolve this matter, if I am elected in the by-election.
"It's very sad to see the conditions faced by the people, especially those who are old and sick, to go to clinics and hospitals using stairs," she said during her campaign round at the Seri Menanti Apartment, here today.
The Seri Setia by-election is being held following the death of it’s incumbent, Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin from a bowel cancer, on Aug 2.
In the 14th General Election (GE-14), Shaharuddin won the state seat with a majority of 19,372 votes beating Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Yusoff Haniff, Mohd Ghazali Daud from PAS and Independent candidate Dr S Vignes.
The by-election on Sept 8 will see a clash between Dr Halimah and Pakatan Harapan candidate, Halimey Abu Bakar.
