Anwar says he trusts Dr M will handover PM post

PUTRAJAYA: PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he has no doubt that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will handover the prime minister post to him as per Pakatan Harapan's agreement.

He dismissed talks that Dr Mahathir would not make way for him to become the next prime minister due to the duo's history.

"When Dr Mahathir came to see me to talk about an alliance as Pakatan Harapan. I put our past behind. What is the point of being hard?

"Therefore, we have come to an agreement that he will be made prime minister should PH win the general elections and the position will be handed over to me later.

"I know there's talk that I will not be made PM spreading out there but these people seemed to have forgotten that we (in PH) have agreed to this in our 'reform agenda'," he added.

It was stated in the PH agreement that Dr Mahathir would step down and hand over the role of prime minister to Anwar in two years.

Anwar said this in a dinner hosted by Society for the Enlightenment of the Ummah Malaysia (Wadah) last night.

In an address in front of thousands of Wadah members and followers, Anwar also slammed quarters that claimed he was too old for the job and has become irrelevant.

"There are talks that I'm no longer relevant and that I'm cynical... There's also saying that I don't believe in the leadership of young people. (But) I am the one who had given most opportunities to young leaders.

"(However) I'm also a stern leader who will remind young leaders against betraying the trust of the people who had supported them." he said.
