PKR voting fiasco: You throw chairs, we will throw you out

KOTA KINABALU: Any individuals or quarters creating chaos during the 2018 PKR polls will be kicked out of the party.

PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in delivering the stern warning, however said investigations will be conducted first and only those proven guilty will be removed from the party.

Commenting on the fiasco that took place in Kedah yesterday during the voting process, Anwar did not rule out element of sabotage committed by certain members.

The fiasco led to the postponement of the voting process for four states.

“Those who threw chairs (causing chaos), will be thrown out of the party. But we will investigate first.

“I am not sure, there may be one or two (element of sabotage) amongst them in the party,” he said when asked on the possibility of sabotage with regard to the incident yesterday.

Commenting on the postponement of the voting process for several states, Anwar said it was meant to strengthen the system following the complications that arose, and to improve on weaknesses.

“I do not want the confusion to create problems.. I have spoken to the Central Election Committee chief Datuk Rashid on this yesterday,” he told reporters after speaking at the ‘Malaysia Baharu’ seminar at Wisma Muis, here, today.

Also present was state deputy chief minister cum Sabah PKR chairman Christina Liew.

Earlier, at the party’s state-level Malaysia Day celebration, Anwar warned party leaders and members against the lure of corruption or becoming arrogant when in power.

“We, in Pakatan Harapan (PH), have been urged to bring about change. So, when in power, don’t be arrogant and threaten people by buying votes," he said, adding that PH came into power because the people had become aware and they hoped for change.

“It’s a battle between the old regime who believe they can continue to steal, rob, plunder and oppress because they can buy people and loyalty,” he said.

Anwar stressed that PKR must push away elements of corruption, injustice, as well as racism.

Meanwhile, he called on party members to support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister, adding both he and Mahathir have put the past aside for the people’s interest.

“Many asked how I am able to work with Mahathir. I told them, we were a strong gang when he was the Prime Minister and I was his deputy but we also fought all out in a battle, in which I ended up in prison.

“Now to me, it is vital we are united and forget the past. It’s painful but we have to do this to build the nation.. the Prime Minister must be given full support so he can clean up the necessary.

“I have had a discussion with Mahathir that I will focus in Parliament. He said this is good,” said Anwar.
