I do not hate Umno: Anwar

PORT DICKSON: Incoming PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he has never hated Umno, the party which once catapulted his political career.

"I don't hate Umno. I just disagree with them.

"(And) looking at the robbery (which has been claimed to involve Umno) that is happening right in front of our eyes, it is shocking," he said in his speech at a hi-tea event with the Sikh community at the Sikh Temple Guduwara (Saheb) Sri Tanjung, here today.

On another issue, Anwar brushed-off rumblings that the Pakatan Harapan government’s machinery was ‘abused’ for his nomination for the state by-election today with the appearance of his wife, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, at the nomination centre this morning.

"She came to support me in her capacity as PKR's (outgoing) president. She even came using her private car. She didn't use the government's official vehicle.

"There was no special escort whatsoever. I stand by what I have said before: I don't want any government facilities or machinery to be used for PH's campaign in the Port Dickson by-election," he said.

Anwar stressed, however, that he could do nothing about the presence of security officers who were protecting and escorting Wan Azizah in her capacity as Malaysia’s second most powerful political leader.
