MACHANG: Umno will likely be history in the upcoming 15th General Election with all Malays giving their support to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), said Kelantan Bersatu deputy chairman Datuk Sazmi Miah.
He said Umno could not longer safeguard the rights of the Malays and this has caused them to look to or join Bersatu.
“Statements which claim that Umno will continue to survive and fight for the welfare of the Malays is not true as I do not see how it can do so anymore.
“So, let us see what is going to happen to Umno from now until the next GE. I feel Umno will no longer exist and will already be history by then.
"So, I hope Umno leaders be realistic and logical,” he told reporters after the Machang Bersatu annual assembly here today.
He was commenting on statements from several Umno leaders among them Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said who stated that the party was still relevant to the Malays and would not die as claimed by certain parties.
Sazmi, who is also Machang member of parliament, said although Umno was in power for 60 years, the lot of the Malays remained the same especially in education.
He said the Malays needed to be loyal to a party which could help them and this was Bersatu, no longer Umno.
“Bersatu will be the new bedrock of Malay struggles replacing Umno as a whole when people join the party in stages.
“If we want to build a new Malaysia, we have to change our vehicle and the foundtion of our struggles. Bersatu is offering something better and more perfect compared to Umno,” he said.
