Srikandi seeks for emergence of world-class women entrepreneurs

PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) women’s wing Srikandi is aiming for the emergence of world-class Malaysian women entrepreneurs to boost the country’s economic development.

Srikandi chief Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said that there was a large number of women and small-scale entrepreneurs nationwide.

She pointed out that there was a number of women entrepreneurs in Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (Tekun), and asked how many Malay female entrepreneurs made it to the 100 world’s richest list.

“Women are synonymous with being small-scale entrepreneurs, therefore Srikandi needs to ensure that this status changes to women becoming world-class entrepreneurs.

“With the sophistication of the Internet and robotic technology, women no longer need to travel far away to cities or towns to become world-class entrepreneurs,” she said during the Srikandi policy speech at the Bersatu second annual general assembly here today.

She noted that online marketing and express post services that was becoming more sophisticated and easy to use would enable women entrepreneurs in villages to boost their income and widen their reach worldwide.

“Is it impossible for pineapple tart biscuits priced at RM35 to be sold for USD20 to buyers in the United States? Is it impossible for pickles priced at RM30 a bottle be sold in Japan for USD30?

“Nothing is impossible if suitable marketing is implemented, coupled with small entrepreneurs being given appropriate online marketing training,” she said.
