Lokman Noor Adam arrested and released, says PMB

KUALA LUMPUR: After 12 hours in lockup, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam was released this morning.

He was detained yesterday by Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department under the Sedition Act.

Lokman who is also president of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called Pemantau Malaysia Baharu (PMB) was released at 10.30am after spending the night in the Dang Wangi district police headquarters lockup.

Prior to his arrest, Lokman was called in to give his statement in relation to a live video posted on social media alleging a cover-up by the government on those responsible for the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

PMB secretary Lisa Yahaya in a statement informed that Lokman was arrested after he was called in to have his statement recorded in Bukit Aman at 2pm yesterday.

"After his statement was recorded, he was arrested under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.

"At about 10pm (yesterday), he was taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters where he spent the night there and is expected to be released tomorrow (today)," Lisa said in a statement yesterday.

She added that the NGO regretted the arrest as they did not see a necessity for Lokman to spend the night in lockup.

However, as at press time, there has yet to be confirmation from Bukit Aman on Lokman's arrest and subsequent release.
