Three Cameron Highlands candidates sign BERSIH 2.0 pledge

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Three Cameron Highlands by-election candidates have signed a pledge to participate and conduct themselves in the polls according to the rules and regulations set by the Election Commission.

The three candidates who signed the pledge are Pakatan Harapan’s (PH), M Manogaran and the two independent candidates, Salehuddin Ab Talib and Wong Seng Yee.

However Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Ramli Mohd Noor was unable to attend and sign pledge due to a tight schedule for the day.

BERSIH 2.0 chairman Thomas Fann said the BN candidate was not opposed against the clean and fair pledge.

The BN candidate never said that he rejected the BERSIH pledge but instead was busy with his responsibility and his tight schedule.

“He will tell us when he is free to sign the pledge,” Fann said.

He adds that what is contained in the pledge is what the EC rules regulations state.

He was speaking to reporters after the signing of the pledge by the three candidates, here today.

Meanwhile, Fann said they are working towards having the first live debate involving candidates of an election.

He said BERSIH 2.0 had secured the agreement of the three candidates with the exception of Ramli in the proposed debate which would be live telecast.

"We are also negotiating with RTM to telecast the debate live on national TV," he said.

He said if the debate materialises it would take place on Jan 23.
