PH can make Cameron Highlands better, says Muhyiddin

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has stronger means to make Cameron Highlands better than what it is now should the coalition be given the mandate by voters in the constituency in the upcoming by-election this Jan 26.

PH deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the coalition had better capacity and resources to develop Cameron Highlands.

Saying the ruling government was aware of the issues faced by the constituency, Muhyiddin said he believed PH could do a better job than Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Cameron Highlands is a tourism product with more (potential) can be offered. This is why we (PH) can do a lot more there.

“If our candidate wins the by-election, he will immediately promote Cameron Highlands to be more than what it is now,” said Muhyiddin, who is also the Home Minister.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said on Sunday that PH faced a tough fight against BN in the by-election.

The deputy prime minister said this was because BN, apart from fielding an Orang Asli as its candidate, also harped on local sentiments.

Muhyiddin, however, admitted several raised issues leading to the upcoming by-election including the controversial statement allegedly made by Bob Manolan Mohd, who is a senator from PKR, would in a way affect PH’s chance to win the by-election.

Muhyiddin said it would be up to the voters including the Orang Asli voters in Cameron Highlands to evaluate the said statement, which was alleged to have element of threats against the Orang Asli tok batin (village chiefs).

“What is important, explanation has been given regarding the matter and it is up to everyone to evaluate it.

“Regardless, any statement (issued) should not lead to any misunderstanding, so much so when it involves the political boundaries,” he added.
