PKR confident of PH win in Semenyih

JOHOR BARU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is confident that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will retain its Semenyih seat in the March 2 by-election.

PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin said Selangor had been under PH’s administration for more than two terms and the people understood what the state government could do for them.

“I was in Semenyih before and the support for PH is very high,” said the housing and local government minister after launching the Family Health Care Carnival organised by the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association here.

“I am confident we will retain the seat.”

She added that Selangor voters were mature and understood that since PH was the ruling party at the state and federal levels, they would get more benefits by supporting PH.

“I am sure the voters will be able to evaluate what the Selangor government has done.”

The by-election will see a four-cornered fight involving PH, Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and an independent candidate.

PH candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali, 30, will face BN’s Zakaria Hanafi, 58; PSM’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, 25; and independent candidate and social activist Kuan Chee Heng, 56.

Zuraida shrugged off rumours that she and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali would be leaving the party to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

“Maybe it is because there are a lot of people hopping parties at the moment that they are saying even I will be doing so,” she said.

“That is not happening because we (PKR and PPBM) are both in PH. It does not make any difference whether I join PPBM or not.”
