Guan Eng: Malaysia controlled by DAP? Pas merely fanning racial tension

KLANG: Claims that Malaysia is being controlled by DAP is a merely an attempt by Pas to stir up hatred against the non-Malays and non-Muslims, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today.

The finance minister said Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s assertion that Malaysia was under the control of non-Muslims was untrue as the prime minister himself was Muslim.

Lim claimed that Hadi issued the statement in an attempt to save Pas, following allegations that the Islamic party had received money from Umno.

“The prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) is Muslim, and the armed forces and police are led by Muslims.

“I am disappointed that they (Pas), for the sake of saving their political future, are stirring up hatred against the non-Muslims and non-Malays.

“The Pas president even said non-Muslims and non-Malays cannot become ministers,” he said, adding that such a statement went against the spirit of the Federal Constitution.

He said this to reporters after attending a Chap Goh Mei celebration event organised by the Klang Hokkien Association here tonight.

Lim also questioned Pas’ act of blaming the non-Muslims and non-Malays for its own failures.

On whether DAP would accept Pas Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abd Hadi’s challenge to agree to Dr Mahathir serving a full term as prime minister, Lim said the Pas leader was not even a member of Pakatan Harapan.

He said instead, Pas should provide an answer to the public and explain why it had received funds from Umno.
