Rumours on ousting of Perak MB won't affect investors' confidence

IPOH: The state government believes that the ongoing rumour to oust Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu would not affect investors' confidence and the state’s economy.

State Investment, Industrial and Corridor Development committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the ongoing rumours were merely a political gimmick.

“Frankly speaking, it doesn’t affect the confidence level of the investors in Perak even though there are a lot of rumours going on. Those are political gimmicks and many of these businesses, they are very mature. So all this news will not affect their confidence level.

“They (investors) know that we have been governing the state for the last nine months in a very good way and that has created a lot of confidence between themselves, in fact, they are expanding their existing industries in the state,” he said.

Mohammad Nizar who is also state Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy chairman said this in a press conference after attending the China-Perak Business and Trade Conference at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, here, today.

The conference was a joint collaboration programme which aimed at promoting Chinese companies to invest in the state and boost bilateral trade between Perak and Chinese companies.

He also said the state opposition leader Datuk Saarani Mohamad was running out of ideas as he kept recycling the same rumours in light of the state legislative assembly sitting which would commence on April 16.

“Thanks to the state opposition leader who has been recycling the same rumours. He had influenced the people with the same topic last year but nothing happened.

“Please stop doing so as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government wants to give more focus to the people and fulfil the manifesto that we have promised before. We are going to do our work and we don’t have time to play around and to entertain his pointless statements,” he said.

Mohammad Nizar added that within nine-months of PH administrating the state, investment value rose to RM2.4 billion in 2018 compared to RM2 billion in 2017.

“This shows that the investors are not shaken by the rumours that have been going on in the state,” he said.

Last week, Saarani claimed that a state executive councillor, who had previously met with six Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to convince them to join the move to oust Ahmad Faizal, had met more BN representatives recently.

He had also claimed that the move had received the blessing of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

On Saturday, Dr Mahathir denied such claim and said that he was satisfied with Ahmad Faizal’s performance.
