Bersatu targets 100,000 Armada members from Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is aiming to recruit 100,000 members from Sabah for the party's youth wing.

Bersatu’s Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armuda) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the party is confident of achieving the target by next year.

"For now, there are between 100,000 and 150,000 Armada members nationwide.

"Bersatu has spread its Armada wing to all states in Malaysia except in Sarawak which we have no presence yet," he said.

Syed Saddiq was speaking to reporters after handing over appointment letters to 24 protem Armada division chiefs here.

Present were Sabah Bersatu chief coordinator Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor and Sabah PPBM Armada chief Mohd Isquzawan Israq Arsit.

Meanwhile on Sabah's youth wing, Syed Saddiq said he was proud of the members for working hard even before they were appointed.

"I am proud with their performance. At the initial stage, they are unofficial members but they moved very fast and served the people despite having no positions.

The Youth and Sports Minister also assured that Armada would not become a "pak turut" wing by only following whatever was said by others.

He said Bersatu has also given opportunities for youth to climb up to top positions in the party hierarchy.

"Although we are still a new party, there are more than 25 youths who have been pushed forward as candidates during last general election.

"On top of that, for top leadership, Bersatu is the only one among all component parties that allowed youths to be part of the Pakatan Harapan presidential council." Syed Saddiq said.
