Hadi, Tuan Ibrahim retain party posts uncontested

KUANTAN: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man maintained their respective party posts after nomination for top two party posts closed three weeks ago.

PAS Central Election Committee chairman Dr Mohd Fuad Mohd Salleh said for the three vice-president's post in the Islamic party, four candidates had offered themselves as candidates.

“For the post of vice-president, four candidates had satisfied eligibility conditions to contest the three posts. They include the three vice-president incumbents – Idris Ahmad, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad. The other candidate vying for the post is Terengganu Menteri Besar, Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

“In addition, 29 candidates are eligible to contest for18 posts in the PAS central committee, they had already passed through the screening process and the candidates had also been given until this Wednesday to decide whether they will remain to contest or withdraw from the polls,” he said.

Fuad said this in a press conference on the upcoming Pas’ 65th Annual Congress or Muktamar here today.

Also present were Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, Pahang PAS commissioner Rosli Abdul Jabar and state PAS deputy commissioner Andansura Rabu.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said all motions to be debated at this year’s Muktamar would be perused and assessed by the party this Friday.

“We will evaluate and fine-tune each motion that delegates would table at a special meeting which would be held June 14 at the Pas headquarters,” he said.

Hadi is expected to open the 65th Muktamar on June 21 and will end on June 23. It will take place at Indera Mahkota, near here.

“For the Muktamar this time around, PAS Muslimat will meet on June 15 at the Bukit Gambang Convention Center, followed by Pas Youth on June 19 and 20,” he said, adding that both party wings will also see election taking place for office bearers.

Fuad said Pas Youth is expected to have a new chief, as incumbent Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi would not be contesting.

Elections for various party posts and wings at the central level will take place on June 21.

"In addition, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi will also be opening the PAS Supporters convention which is expected to be attended by about some 300 members on June 21," he said.

He said a total of 1,200 delegates will participate in this year’s Muktamar, which will also see the attendance of Pas Supporters Club as well as Umno leaders.

"We had invited a number of Umno leaders, among those who had agreed to attend are deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Pahang Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Perlis Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Azlan Man,” he said.
