Haziq should have been sacked sooner, says Zuraida

PORT DICKSON: PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin has described the party’s move to sack Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz as ‘appropriate’.

She, however, said the decision to sack Haziq, who made headlines recently when he admitted that he was one of the two men in several viral sex videos, should have been made earlier to prevent more speculation.

“I, however, (feel) a little bit disappointed. He (Haziq) should have been sacked earlier.

“I hope that if such cases occur in the future, swift action can be taken by the party so speculation and dissemination of information can be stopped as soon as possible.

“If this continues, people will have no other work besides reading stories like this. Then, how can we develop the nation?

“We need to stop this kind of culture,” she said after the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (Prima) townhall session, here, today.

Yesterday, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the sacking of Haziq, who is also the former senior secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, with immediate effect for breaching the party’s code of ethics.

The decision was made by PKR’s political bureau headed by Anwar, after receiving the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary board upon finding that Haziq had defamed and intended to ruin the party’s name.

On June 19, Zuraida slammed the party’s leadership for not taking any action against Haziq even after the latter had confessed to being involved in the sex video scandal, which also implicated a minister.

Asked whether the controversy would impact PKR, Zuraida said: “The party (PKR) will still be there.”
