Promises remain undelivered in Sabah: PBS

RANAU: The current Warisan-led Sabah government has failed to deliver on what it promised, 14 months after coming into power.

Parti Bersatu Sabah President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili claimed that the current Parti Warisan-Pakatan Harapan-Upko government had no clear direction of how it plans to develop Sabah.

The government has failed to grow the economy, lower prices of goods and services, improve security, reduce illegal immigrants, provide basic Infrastructure needs, create jobs and uplift the standard of living of the rural people, he said.

"These were clearly GE14 (14th general election) promises which are now just 'janji terang bulan', a political gimmick to lure people's votes," he said.

Ongkili was speaking at the launch of the joint PBS annual general meeting for Kundasang, Karanaan and Paginatan at Kampung Kilimu multipurpose hall, here.

Instead of coming up with solutions, the former Energy, Green Technology and Water minister said the current government are engulfed with various political dramas from sex videos to allegations of rape involving elected leaders.

"There is no news of success stories, or new development programmes and initiatives," he said.

Ongkili adds that in respect of Sabah, security and feeling of insecurity is affecting the economy, especially the tourism industry.

"Recently, tourists even died as victims of fish bombing. Even a police boat was attacked by foreign bandits using a fish bomb. What's happening to our beloved Sabah? Is this the 'New Sabah' that Warisan promised during the elections?

"In the matter of land ownership, illegal immigrants in squatter areas are clamouring to apply for identity cards and citizenship, and illegally occupying government and private lands," he noted.

Ongkili said that these groups even harassed land officers with threats.

"Sabahans must wake up to these threats and stand up for our rights and future.

"Bear in mind that Sabah is our land. We are the original Sabahans … Sabah Pogun Tokou (Sabah is our land), not the land of illegal immigrants," he stressed.
