Time for a major review of promises, Kit Siang tells PH

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has urged the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led government to review its promises in the 14th General Election manifesto to restore people's confidence in the administration.

He added that Malaysians would appreciate it if the government was frank and admit that there are some promises that were almost impossible to be fulfilled.

"444 days after the historic change of government of May 9, 2018, it is time for a major review of Pakatan Harapan’s promise of a New Malaysia and the 14th General Election Pakatan Harapan Manifesto,” he said in his speech during the Malaysian Economic Symposium at the Parliament building here today.

Lim said such display of honesty would be appreciated by Malaysians, especially the youth.

“And this has become even more necessary now after we changed the voting age limit from 21 to 18."

According to Lim, to win the youth’s hearts and votes, the government must be honest with them on its plans of a New Malaysia with shared prosperity, while garnering their support through its vision and idealism.

The Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament also reminded PH leaders that many supporters were disappointed as they felt the government was now going back to the ways of the Barisan Nasional administration.

Lim, who is also the deputy chairman of the parliamentary caucus of reform and governance, said to restore the people’s confidence and win back their support, PH must be steadfast in upholding the five pillars of its manifesto.

These include addressing the people’s burden, institutional and political reforms, sustainable and equitable economic growth, the rights of Sabah and Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and a more inclusive and moderate Malaysia.
