Azmin slams Pasir Gudang MP's call for PM to step down

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali slammed the statement made by the Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament who called for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to step down.

Describing the action by Hassan Abdul Karim as inappropriate and uncalled for, Azmin said Hassan should instead focus on developing his constituency.

“This is not the role of an MP. An MP should focus on developing his or her constituency, and the matter of Dr Mahathir as our Prime Minister was already determined by the rakyat in the last General Election.

“Pakatan Harapan’s stand is clear. We give full support to Dr Mahathir to continue his leadership as political stability is important in pulling in investors,” Azmin said when met after participating in the World Statistics Congress 2019 5km run at Dataran Merdeka today.

Earlier, Azmin flagged off about 7,000 participants for the run in conjunction with the 62nd World Statistics Congress 2019 which is held for the first time in Malaysia starting today until Aug 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Hassan was reported to have called for Dr Mahathir to resign as he claimed the Prime Minister had lost his cause and power to solve some critical issues.

Hassan also suggested for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to replace Dr Mahathir for the sake of Pakatan Harapan who are currently facing issues involving race, religion and Malay rulers.
