Anwar: Respect and accept PH agreement on PM's post

SHAH ALAM: All quarters, including the country’s political leadership, have been urged to respect the agreement reached on the prime minister’s position.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it had been agreed that there would be strong support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister now and him as the next prime minister.

As such, he said all quarters were advised to refrain from make any statements in relation to the issue.

“Our advice is to respect the agreement and back Dr Mahathir as the prime minister and me as the next prime minister.

“There are attempts from both directions to sabotage, but for me, Dr Mahathir and other PH leaders, nothing has changed,” he said after opening the Professional Motivators Conference, here. today.

The Port Dickson member of parliament was commenting on remarks made by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim on Wednesday.

Hassan had called for Dr Mahathir to step down as prime minister for failing to resolve a number of critical issues.

He had claimed that he was doing so because of polemics in the country.

He said Dr Mahathir seemed to be at a loss over the handling of various issues, especially the three Rs — race, religion and royalty.

Earlier today, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali slammed Hassan over his remarks.

He said the PKR MP should not have come out with such a statement but should concentrate on the development agenda in his constituency.

He said the PKR leadership had expressed its stand firmly and strongly supported Dr Mahathir to continue in his leadership as prime minister.

“The matter of Dr Mahathir being prime minister was decided by the people in the last general election.

“Thankfully, under one year of Dr Mahathir’s leadership, we have laid the right foundation.

“I believe now is the time for the implementation of the policies that have been set,” he said.
