Dr Wan Azizah: Salleh's application to join PKR will be reviewed

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno stalwart Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak’s application to join PKR will be reviewed following calls opposing his entry into the party.

PKR advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party had yet to decide on Salleh’s application and that it would be reviewed.

“We have received his application, but whether it is approved or otherwise, will be decided by the party’s political bureau.

“This shows that PKR is attractive, because that’s among the reasons he said he wanted to join the party.

“We will consider the application but we have to deliberate it as everyone has their own sensitivities,” she said at Parliament lobby, here, today.

On Sunday, Salleh published a blog post in which said he had applied to join PKR because it was a multiracial party that reflected his political views and its progressive politics was what was needed to save Malaysia from extremism.

Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak endorsed Salleh, noting the latter’s extensive experience in leadership and politics could strengthen PKR, especially in Sabah.

But, Sabah PKR deputy chief Datuk Mustafa Sakmud expressed reservations about Salleh’s membership application as the former communications and multimedia minister was a staunch supporter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
