Karmaine vows to continue Dr Farid's legacy

PONTIAN: Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election Karmaine Sardini has pledged to continue former member of parliament Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik’s good work in the constituency.

He said he would ensure that all projects planned by the late MP would be realised.

“Yes, for sure. No need to ask again. Once I’m elected, Insha Allah (God willing),” he said during a campaign programme at Tenggayun here today.

Checks by the New Straits Times over the last one week of campaigning revealed that most voters who chose Dr Farid in the last General Election believed in his plans.

They also said they would prefer that Karmaine made a formal pledge to continue Dr Farid’s legacy.

Also present during the programme was Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Redzuan Yusof who also affirmed that Dr Farid’s vision for Tanjung Piai would be continued.

“This will not be a problem. We will definitely work hand-in-hand to ensure all of the initiatives by Dr Farid will be realised,” he said.

Dr Farid who was also deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department died on Sept 21 due to heart complications.

The Tanjung Piai by-election will be held on Nov 16 while early voting is on Nov 12.

It will see a six-cornered fight involving Karmaine, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (Barisan Nasional), Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan), Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (Berjasa) and two independent candidates, Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghani.
