Karmaine very much the same humble person, say residents

PONTIAN: Karmaine Sardini may be on his way to bigger things as Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election, however, those who have known him since his younger days said he is the same humble person.

Residents of Telok Kerang, which is Karmaine’s hometown, said he had a remarkable commitment to help the community and was fond of assisting others without any pomp.

Jasni Asherap, 62, said he had known Karmaine since they were children, and had admired his drive and spirit.

“He’s done the village proud, having gone to university and later starting a business. However, he never forgets his roots and frequently returns to the village.

“He used his money, knowledge and network to help villagers.

“Many of the development projects here, including the mosque and school hall, were possible thanks to his efforts, as well as that of the late Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik (former Tanjung Piai member of parliament), who tirelessly sought funding and allocations.

“Karmaine, however, never beat his own drum when it came to his deeds. He is humble and mingles with villagers here.”

Muhd Khuzairi Duki, 33, said Karmaine was down to earth and that the Tanjung Piai Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chief was well-respected by the locals.

“He is respected by the young and old. He takes the time to learn about the youth here.

“We sincerely hope he will become the MP, which will enable him to boost economy and create more jobs for the locals.”

Pahmi Abdun, 74, who has been Karmaine’s neighbour since they were young, said the latter’s business career never dominated his desire to help the community.

“As the Tanjung Piai Bersatu chief, he worked closely with the late Dr Farid to help the people and develop the area.

“Apart from being close to Malays, he gets along with the Chinese.”
