Stop talking about power transition, Azmin tells Anwar

MELAKA: The priority at the moment is to rebuild the country and Pakatan Harapan (PH) is trying its best to fulfil its manifesto.

In saying this, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali pointed out that talks on power transition should not be the focus.

This appeared to be an apparent snipe aimed against PKR's number one Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Mohamed Azmin said the latter had been talking about power transition all the time.

“You don’t have to talk about it (power transition) every day, every week and every month.

“When the people voted us in, they wanted us to reform and deliver and that should be the focus of the new government,” he told a press conference at the Ames Hotel, here, today.

The Economic Affairs Minister said since PH had only come into power less than two years, the ruling coalition needed to work overtime to ensure the country’s stability.

“There is so much to do. We couldn’t even fulfil all the manifesto yet because that manifesto was planned for five years.

“We are committed to delivering it and we are here to ensure that we will deliver but we have to work as a team. We should not undermine each other,” he said.

Prior to the 14th General Election, the PH presidential council agreed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be the prime minister and Anwar would succeed him after a certain period of time.

Dr Mahathir had previously said it could take a year or two, depending on when was the right time to do so as the focus would be on rebuilding the country.

However, Anwar during a Dewan Rakyat session in October announced that he would take over after two years, which would be in May 2020.
