Don't run away from criticism, Chow tells DAP leaders, members

PRAI: Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow today urged party leaders and members to be brave when faced with criticism from the people.

The Penang Chief Minister said they should not shy away from listening to alternative voices, which may not be favourable to them, when implementing various policies and projects.

He said when DAP was the opposition, the party had criticised the previous government over policies that failed to benefit the people.

"Now that we are in the government, we must be brave to face up to any criticism. We must not run away. We must face our critics," he said in his speech at the Penang DAP Convention here today.

Present was party secretary-general and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Chow said, despite being in the government, the party has continued to criticised policies which does not benefit the people.

"We still speak up for the people but we do it through the proper forum... such as through conventions like this one or during meetings with the grassroots," he added.

In his speech to some 376 delegates present, Chow also urged the people to give Pakatan Harapan (PH) time to fulfil the promises made during the 14th General Election.

"Penang has gone through similar situation back in 2008 when the opposition took over from Barisan Nasional. We have seen great success in the past 10 years.

"In the last general election, Penang had made 68 promises to the people, which we have fulfilled about 70 per cent of them. At the national level, we have fulfilled about 60 per cent of the promises.

"We are going through a period of stabilisation after inheriting the government from a party which was in power for six decades.

“I am not saying we are not stable but we are in transition. We expect to fulfil the other promises in another two years." he added.
