PBS launches 'Reject PSS' campaign; pledges support for BN candidate

KIMANIS: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is heading to all district polling centres to raise awareness on Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS) issue throughout the campaigning for the Kimanis parliamentary by-election.

The party had yesterday launched its "Reject PSS" campaign, with leaders and members preparing to go around and distribute leaflets and posters to the constituents. The material contains 10 points or reasons why the people should say no to PSS.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili had also officially declared full party support for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin in the Kimanis by-election.

The local opposition party had previously announced that they would only endorse candidate who is vocal on Malaysia Agreement 1963 and fight against PSS proposal, as well as the presence of illegal immigrants in the state.

Among the 10 points stated on the leaflets and posters included PSS would be detrimental to the state and its people.

PBS also stated that PSS would also encourage bribery as immigrants would pay authority to get into the country or through other crimes.

"PSS also paves the way for immigrants to gain citizenship; encourages terrorists to intrude the state; paints images that we are one country with two immigration systems.

"PSS is also making genuine citizens become refugees in their own country," the PSS summary read.

On Jan 15, leaders from BN and local opposition parties are expected to converge here to oppose against the PSS proposal, which is scheduled to take effect June 1.

Proposed by the Home Ministry, the PSS is to replace IMM13, Burung-Burung and Census cards to better regulate and monitor presence of foreigners in the state.
