PBS loses another long-serving member

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has lost another senior and long-serving member.

Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman announced her resignation as deputy president today after being with the party for more than 33 years.

She is the third to leave the party after Tandek assemblyman Datuk Anita Baranting left as its women’s wing chief in March and Labuk assemblyman Abdul Rahman Kongkawang who left in September for Parti Warisan Sabah.

Jamilah, who is also Sindumin division chief, also relinquished all her positions in the party.

She said that the decision was made after holding discussions with PBS supporters, especially in Sipitang.

“The decision was made as I have lost confidence with the leadership of PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

“He is an inconsistent leader who does not keep to his words, is inconsiderate, practices favouritism and is a hypocrite,” the former Sipitang assemblyman said in a statement.

Jamilah was the first woman from the Muslim Bumiputera community elected as PBS’s deputy president.

She was re-elected as deputy president during the 33rd party convention in November 2018.

Other incumbent deputy presidents are Datuk Radin Malleh and Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai.

“Since I could not work together with the president and his ‘gang’ in PBS, it is better to leave the party.

“For now, I would like to take a break from politics and have yet to decide anything for my political career.”
