Penang backs Dr M as PM

GEORGE TOWN: Penang government has thrown its support behind Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue to lead the country under the Pakatan Harapan banner.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government would remain committed towards Pakatan Harapan.

“Following the latest political development at the national level, we (Penang) will remain committed towards Pakatan Harapan.

“We will continue to carry out our responsibility to lead the state as mandated by the people in the 14th General Election,” said Chow, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan and DAP chairman.

Chow said the mandate given by the people was sacred and should be respected by all.

Earlier today, Dr Mahathir announced his resignation as the country’s seventh prime minister. He has since been reappointed as the interim Prime Minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
