Dr Radzi criticises Tun M, Mukhriz over joint statement

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia information chief Dr Radzi Jidin today released a stinging statement directed to party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

He said Dr Mahathir has no power to sign any joint statement with Pakatan Harapan and Parti Warisan Sabah and that the action of the former prime minister was not in line with the party's stand.

Radzi was referring to a joint statement on May 4 signed by Dr Mahathir representing Bersatu together with Warisan, PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

The joint statement called on the government to extend the Dewan Rakyat session to two weeks instead of one day. The Parliament is scheduled to convene on May 18 for one day.

The reason for the call, according to the statement, was due to the government's decision to relax the Movement Control Order and therefore, the leaders said it made sense for the Parliament to run for at least two weeks.

However, Radzi said Bersatu members should adhere to party rules and reminded that decisions can only be made by the party leadership.

"Bersatu would like to stress that Dr Mahathir has no power to sign the joint statement between Pakatan Harapan, Bersatu and Parti Warisan Negara dated May 4 and this action is against the party's stand.

"Bersatu would also like to stress that the statement by Mukhriz calling on Bersatu members to return to Pakatan Harapan was his own personal opinion and not the party's official stance," he said.

On Sunday, Mukhriz wrote on his Facebook page that it would be better for Bersatu to work with Pakatan Harapan rather than Perikatan Nasional.

He also said the idea of a unity government voiced by Dr Mahathir a few months ago would be the best solution for the country.

However, Radzi said Bersatu has no intention to return to Pakatan Harapan and reminded that party members who purposely join another political pact will be sacked.

"Every member must follow the official directive issued by the party which was done collectively and in accordance with the party constitution.
