KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah DAP candidate announced that he has defended his Luyang state seat after garnering more than half of the total votes from constituents.
Ginger Phoong is said to have retained his seat after securing 14,342 votes as of 7.30pm. He announced his victory in a statement.
"I have secured more than half of the total votes and achieved majority. Therefore, humbly and full of gratitude, I announce my victory.
"I am proud to be re-elected as a representative, I am aware of the importance and huge mandate. Based on democratic spirit, my team and I will work hard to serve the people of Luyang," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, it is learned that Sabah DAP is now leading in six out of the seven state seats the party is contesting in.
Apart from Luyang, the seats are Likas, Kapayan, Tanjong Papat, Elopura and Sri Tanjong.
