BN emergency meeting: Decision on way forward 'will be made tonight'

KUALA LUMPUR: The emergency meeting chaired by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with the coalition's MPs today concluded without any decision reached.

Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the meeting was held to obtain views from BN lawmakers on the coalition's position and direction.

"We did not come to any decision.

"The meeting was held to obtain views from MPs from BN on the position and direction of the coalition, which will subsequently become the stance of the coalition.

"Nevertheless, any decision will be made by the Supreme Council tonight," he told reporters at the lobby of Menara Dato Onn, where the emergency meeting had convened.

"The meeting just now was held to exchange views among MPs. And as a member of (coalition partner Umno), we are subject to the decision of the party. We hold to its principles and we cannot be divided.

"Umno must act as one (political) bloc. These were among the views that were supported by all parties (attendees of the emergency meeting)," Najib said.

When pressed further on whether there was a proposal for Umno to urge Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to dissolve Parliament, Najib replied: "No decision.

"There were several views raised (during the meeting). However, the views do not amount to a decision (representing the stance of the party).

"What is important is the decision (by the Umno Supreme Council tonight)," he added.
