Anwar open to alliance with anti-graft politicians, makes no mention of Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR is open to working with any politician with a desire to realise a Malaysia that is free of corruption and abuse of power.

Its president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said the party will continue its agenda of reform, based on justice and the wellbeing of all Malaysians.

However, he made no mention of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who yesterday revealed that he had proposed a cooperation between Umno and the Port Dickson Member of Parliament.

"We are prepared to cooperate with politicians who seek an arrangement that is free from corruption, abuse of power, and one that upholds value politics.

"On the 2021 Budget that will be tabled soon, it must mobilise the bipartisan efforts and roles of both the government and the opposition in planning effective strategies to deal with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, unemployment and poverty," he said in a statement today.

Anwar also said that recent warnings from the Malay Rulers on abuse of power and the principles of justice must not be taken lightly, but supported by all who strongly oppose dishonesty.

"Any effort to restore the people's mandate must be prioritised, (as well as) defending the dignity of the nation and country, without pawning off the principles of struggle and idealism," he added.

Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the coalition will remain steadfast with the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a tweet today, Annuar said Perikatan Nasional (PN) is a government that was accepted with a consensus that is continuously being strengthened.

"This would surely disappoint Pakatan Harapan. We correct the wrongs, strengthen the weak, and close any gaps. Together, we lead," he said.

The Umno working committee council late last night decided to continue supporting the PN government and Muhyiddin's leadership.

The four-hour-long meeting was chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the party's headquarters, here.

Umno also recommended that the National Reconciliation Initiative, or the National Peace Agenda (Agenda Perdamaian Nasional), be immediately implemented by mobilising all political parties in the PN government, as well as opposition parties.
