Now in PN, Kelantan Gerakan wants to contest Pas's state seat

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Gerakan wants to contest its ally Pas's traditional state seat, Kota Lama, which the Islamic party has held for more than two terms.

Fresh from joining Perikatan Nasional (PN) as one of the coalition's components, Kelantan Gerakan assistant secretary Gan Thuan Bun said that the seat is home to a majority of Chinese voters.

The seat is currently held by Pas's Datuk Anuar Tan Abdullah.

"The Kota Lama state seat has been Pas's traditional seat for more than two terms.

"Most of the voters there are Chinese. We hope to be given the chance to run for the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15)," Gan said when contacted.

Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai had yesterday said the party is now officially part of PN after its application to join the coalition was accepted by its chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Gan also said Kelantan Gerakan would give its full support to PN and work with their allies to ensure their victory in GE15.

"We will do our best to ensure PN's success in the next election. Being in a strong team is better than standing alone."

He said it is important to preserve the country's political stability.

"People are increasingly disappointed with current political on-goings. Hence, we will abide by PN's policies as long as they benefit the people."

PN was officially formed as a pact last year, consisting of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Pas and Sabah-based parties such as Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Progresif Sabah (SAPP).
