BN, Umno support govt, says Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional and Umno remain supportive of the government of the day despite the current political crisis and instability, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said.

The Senior Foreign Minister said the stand was made clear yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, who is also Umno vice-president.

"In BN and Umno, the stance has been made and (the matter) was announced by the deputy prime minister yesterday.

"Not only my friends in the Dewan (Rakyat) and I support it, we are also of the same view with the announcement (made by Ismail Sabri) to continue supporting the government of the day," he said during a press conference after the Covid-19 Medical Contribution Handover Ceremony from Saudi Arabia at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Isis) here today.

Also present were Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Redzuan Yusof and Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Dr Mahmoud Hussien Saeed Qattan.

Yesterday, Ismail Sabri, who is also the government chief whip, said in a statement that the government still enjoys the confidence of over 110 members of parliament.
