Bersatu to act against those contesting in Sarawak without consent

KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will not hesitate to take action against any of its members, including Sarawak Member of Parliament, Datuk Ali Biju who is contesting the 12th Sarawak Election without the consent of the party.

Sarawak Bersatu chairman Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian said strict disciplinary action including having their membership immediately revoked will be taken against members who fail to adhere to the party's constitution.

"Sarawak Bersatu fully supports the decision by the party's top leadership, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Supreme Council to sit out of the Sarawak election.

"Sarawak Bersatu will also adhere with the decision that the party will not hesitate to take strict action against any of its members contesting the polls without permission.

"Any party members who are contesting without the permission of the party including Ali Biju can face disciplinary action as stated in the party constitution.

"The central leadership will announce their decision soon," he said in a statement.

He also reiterated undivided support from Sarawak Bersatu towards the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg to ensure a big win for the state-based political coalition.

This, he said, will help ensure continuous development in Sarawak.

Ali Biju, who is the two-term Krian assemblyman, had on Dec 6 filed his nomination papers to defend his seat as an independent candidate.

This was despite the decision by Bersatu's top leadership to sit out of the Sarawak election and assist GPS instead.

Ali Biju is also Saratok member of parliament, and the deputy energy and natural resources minister at the federal level.

Abang Johari, after launching the GPS manifesto last night had said that GPS was disappointed with the move by Ali Biju to contest as an independent candidate in the state election.
