Ismail Sabri denies Umno threatened to strip him of vice-presidency

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied claims that Umno had threatened to strip him of the party vice-presidency if he failed ask for the dissolution of parliament soon.

He said the recent Umno supreme council meeting was held amicably.

"There's nothing. We discussed everything in a friendly manner. There's no issue.

"Sometimes, outsiders see a different picture than what actually happened inside (the meeting)," he told reporters after attending the 18th Civil Service Premier Gathering (MAPPA XVIII) today.

He was asked on rumours that the party supreme council had demanded his sacking if he did not call for parliament to be dissolved soon to pave the way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Umno supreme council had on Saturday held a meeting after 158 Umno division chiefs called for the dissolution of parliament, similar to the view expressed by grassroots leaders who had attended the president's special briefing earlier.
