Sabah PH leader not convince Warisan's 'Borneo Bloc' with Sarawak-based GPS will take flight

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader is not convinced that the proposed political cooperation between Parti Warisan (Warisan) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will see the light in the 15th General Election (GE15).

DAP central committee member Chan Foong Hin said the Warisan-brokered Borneo Bloc political pact with Sarawak ruling coalition was nothing but merely a theory.

The Kota Kinabalu incumbent member of Parliament said as of today, it remains unclear if GPS was interested to work with Warisan for the Nov 19 election.

"If I were GPS would I befriend with Warisan, or Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)?

"It is unlikely GPS will befriend Warisan. If GPS would want to support, they would do so when Warisan alongside with PH was ousted during the Sheraton Move in February 2020.

"(Ex-Parti Pribumi Bersatu Sabah Bandau assemblyman Datuk) Wetrom (Bahanda) jumped from GRS to join Warisan but eventually he joined Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat under Datuk Peter Anthony. It is such a joke," he said.

He was commenting Warisan's push for the setting-up of political pact among East Malaysian parties with GPS.

Even if Sabah local parties could win all parliamentary seats in the state, Chan said it would not according them a strong voice to unanimously decide the next prime minister.

As for Sabah PH, Chan said he is confident that the coalition could win at least 10 parliamentary seats in GE15.

He said such a target is not possible since it was made based on the result of the general election in 2018.

In GE14, Chan said DAP had won three seats - Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tenom while PKR won Tawau, Putatan and Ranau.

Sabah PH's latest component United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) defended Tuaran through its president Datuk Seri Wilfred Tangau.

"We have done it and we can do it again. We might contest against Parti Warisan (Warisan) and Kadazandusun Murut seats, but the mission is to win 10 seats with the right strategy," he said during the Jelajah Harapan programme held at Sekolah Menengah La Salle here.

Present were Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Upko vice president Datuk Ewon Benedict and incumbent Putatan MP Awang Husaini.
