GE15: Underdog? No problem, says BN's Tambun hopeful

IPOH: Going up against "giants" like Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is not worrying Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah.

The Barisan Nasional candidate for Tambun may be seen as "David" to two "Goliaths", but he has a secret weapon: a strong faith in the "politics of service".

Aminuddin admitted to being the underdog, but believed the service he had been providing to the people of Tambun for a long time would help him in his campaign.

"We have been helping the community for a long time. It doesn't matter if my opponent is a giant. If we win, we are the giant killer," he said after the announcement of Perak BN state seat candidates at a hotel here, today.

He said he believed the people would elect representatives who served them rather than vote based on rhetorical promises.

"I think most people talk about elected representatives who provide service, while there are also elected representatives who offer rhetoric.

"What is the benefit to the people if they vote only based on stories and offers that seem convincing but cannot be realised," he said.

Aminuddin said many big names hda lost in previous elections, proving that fame or notoriety did not guarantee victory.

"Of course, I must win the parliamentary constituency for BN. Even though we lost in the last general election, we never stopped helping the community," he said.

The Tambun parliament constituency has two state seats: Manjoi and Hulu Kinta.

Voters in the constituency comprise 67 per cent Malay, 20 per cent Chinese, and 11 per cent Indian, with other communities making up the balance.
