GE15: Umno leader wants BN to call for EGM

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional must call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to decide if it wants form a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan (PH) or otherwise.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Jalaluddin Alias had maintained his stance that a coalition government should be established with the exception of PH.

"I stand with my statement and other (BN) leaders that we will not be working with them (PH).

"There needs to be an EGM if we decide to form a government with them, no one can make a decision (to join them), not even me," he said when met my reporters at Menara Dato Onn, today.

Jalaluddin, who won the Jelebu parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15), however, mentioned that any new decision made by the party shall be followed by its MPs.

"I'm a party man, I contested under the BN ticket and I will not run," he said.

At the same time, Selangor Barisan Nasional communication chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos hinted that the party would form a unity government with PH.

"I am confident that the PH-BN coalition will become reality," he said.

At the same time, several BN leaders have arrived at the Menara Dato' Onn building this morning for a meeting to resolve the issue surrounding the formation of the next federal government.

Among those present include MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The coalition has less than four hours to reach a decision, before presenting its consensus during an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by 2pm today.

Yesterday, a number of BN leaders had a gathering with several Pakatan Harapan counterparts including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whom later confirmed that talks on forming a coalition government were held.
