GE15: Baru Bian wants GPS to drop plans to work with PN

KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR leader Baru Bian has called on Gabungan Parti Sarawak to drop its plans to form a government with Perikatan Nasional.

Baru, who is now Parti Sarawak Bersatu secretary-general, said PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's recent remark which allegedly made to stoke Muslim anger against Christians did not sit well with Sarawakians.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Baru urged Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman to preserve the state's harmony.

"I wish to appeal to the premier and all Sarawak MPs not to work with PN to form the federal government. We are a multi-racial and multi-religious society and we have managed to co-exist harmoniously for so long. This harmony is something we must preserve.

"I condemn Muhyiddin's statement last week that Jews and Christians are using PH as agents to Christianise Malaysia. That dangerous untruth was designed to stoke Muslim anger against Christians and PH. Sarawak Christians reject this statement and we do not want the premier to partner with PN in any way or form."

Baru also reminded Abang Johari of Pas' alleged extremist behaviour.

"I wish to point out that Pas is a component party of PN. Their president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has shown himself to be a religious and racist bigot whose only political agenda is the implementation of Syariah law throughout Malaysia.

"His blaming of non-Muslims for the corruption scandals that besiege Malaysia proves that he is a dangerous and self-serving politician who aims to sow hate and distrust among the races.

"Sarawakians have not forgotten his insulting remarks that Sarawak indigenuous community were "ignorant cawat" (loincloth-wearing) voters who did not know how to vote."

He said Sarawak MPs in GPS need to make a stand against the decision to work with PN.

"I call on all MPs, non-Muslims and Muslim alike, in GPS to be vocal in rejecting PN and Pas. Make a stand to the premier against partnering with racists and religious bigots.

"Your constituents are watching you closely. Now is the time to show to us that you are truly Sarawak first by rejecting racist bigots, because Sarawak represents multi-racialism and a multi-religious society where all religious beliefs are respected."
