GPS reiterates govt formation with PN, BN, GRS

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) today reiterated its stand of forming a federal government with Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

GPS said the coalition represented all the races and religions in Malaysia.

"Following the political impasse in Peninsular Malaysia, GPS is of the opinion that the people's mandate must be respected.

"Therefore, GPS leaves it to the discretion of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in accordance with the powers allocated to His Majesty in the Constitution, to appoint a prime minister who will lead a strong government."

GPS said the country's interests must be prioritised and that the establishment of a stable government took into account the interests of the people and the country above personal interests.

On Sunday, GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg said the party had agreed to form the federal government with four coalitions in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah to strengthen and stabilise the country.

He said the coalition government with PN, BN, and GRS was agreed on during his meeting with PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Abang Johari, who is Sarawak premier, said a coalition government was to uphold the supremacy of the Federal Constitution, the Sarawak Constitution and the rule of law provided for in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Inter-Governmental Committee Report.
