KULIM: Pakatan Harapan chose lawyer Dr Mohamad Sofee Razak, 47, as its candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Soffee, also Kedah PH secretary to replace former Padang Serai MP M. Karupaiya, 69, who died from a heart attack on Wednesday, was picked to defend the seat for a second term.
The Election Commission (EC) subsequently postponed the polls from Nov 19 to Dec 7, with the nomination date had been fixed for tomorrow.
Soffee's candidacy was announced by senior PH leader Salahuddin Ayub at a rally here this evening.
Soffee had contested for the Kuala Ketil state seat in GE14 but lost to Pas candidate Mansor Zakaria in a three-cornered fight.
Soffee will likely face a six-cornered fight to keep the seat in PH's fold.
Other candidates who filed their nominations on Nov 5 are Datuk C. Sivaraajh (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Azman Nasrudin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Bakhri Hashim (Parti Warisan), Hamzah Abdul Rahman (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air) and an independent candidate Sreanandha Rao.
The EC has set Dec 7 as the polling day and Dec 3 for early voting. Candidates will have 13 days to campaign, which ends at 11.59 pm on Dec 6.
