Zahid groupie told haters to cease calls urging the BN chairman to resign

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's supporters want the calls for his resignation to stop.

Its spokesperson, Datuk Dr Ramalan Yunos said the public must abide by the Palace's view of forming a unity government.

"We ask those who want Zahid to resign to back off. The election process is completed, and please digest the facts that no coalition can form a federal government.

"The king has (also) instructed the political parties to form a unity government. As Malaysians, we need to adhere to that.

"What about the Rukun Negara? Aren't we supposed to follow that?" he asked during a press conference at the BN headquarters, Menara Dato' Onn today.

Ramalan reiterated that the coalition chairman was not a 'loser' as no coalition could garner a simple majority of 112 seats to form a federal government.

"So why should he resign? Enough is enough. Stop all this nonsense.

"What are we protesting? It's the king and Malay rulers now who can decide (on who can form a government)," he said.

It was learnt that BN Supreme Council members are meeting at its headquarters, in Menara Dato Onn today.

This would be a second meeting being held at Menara Dato after last night's Umno Supreme Council members meeting.

Umno was reported to have reached a consensus not to be part of a unity government which is led by Perikatan Nasional (PN).

This would mean that Umno is willing to form a unity government with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the decision came after reviewing the recent meetings with PH and PN.

At the same time, the Conference of Rulers is holding a special meeting today at Istana Negara to discuss the ongoing formation of the new government.

The meeting is convened for the rulers to come to a decision that would be in the interest of the people and the country.
