PN names Razman as Perak state assembly opposition leader

IPOH: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership council has appointed Perak Pas commissioner Razman Zakaria as the new state assembly opposition leader.

The appointment was revealed by Razman, who is also Gunung Semanggol assemblyman and state PN deputy chairman, in a post on his official Facebook yesterday.

Razman said Perak PN would play an important role as a check and balance for the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition state government.

"All praise to Allah, the 15th General Election (GE15) has ended and the people have chosen their representatives to be brought to the Dewan Rakyat and the State Legislative Assembly.

"Alhamdulillah, PN has managed to obtain the most seats in the state which is 26 seats compared to other parties (PH 24 seats; BN 9 seats).

"I would like to say thank you to the PN and Pas leadership at the central level as well as the Perak PN who have trusted me to lead the Perak PN assembly members as the leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly," he said.

PN came out tops in the state seats of Pengkalan Hulu, Kenering, Selama, Kubu Gajah, Batu Kurau, Titi Serong, Kuala Kurau, Alor Pongsu, Gunung Semanggol, Selinsing, Kuala Sepetang and Trong.

It also won in Changkat Jering, Chenderoh, Lubok Merbau, Kamunting, Manjoi, Bukit Chandan, Manong, Sungai Manik, Kampung Gajah, Pasir Panjang, Pangkor, Changkat Jong, Bota and Slim.

After GE15, PN and PH did not have enough numbers to form a state government on their own, according to the official result.

PN has 26 seats, PH has 24 seats and BN has nine seats. A total of 30 seats are required for a simple majority to form the Perak state government.

On Nov 22, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah consented to the formation of a coalition government between PH and BN in Perak and Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad was appointed as Menteri besar.
