Tuan Ibrahim: Pas yet to decide on candidate for Kemaman by-election

SHAH ALAM: Pas has yet to decide its candidate for Kemaman by-election, which had been set for Dec 2.

Party deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said former member of Parliament Che Alias Hamid, whose win was nullified by the court, would be able to contest for the seat.

"We are still studying the candidates; he (Che Alias) is one of those listed as the court has ruled that he can contest (in election).

"The party will make an announcement on the candidate that will be fielded (for the by-election)," he told a Press conference on the sidelines of the 69th Pas Muktamar held here.

Tuan Ibrahim said the party leadership had yet to receive a list of potential candidates nominated by the divisional leadership.

Once the central leadership received the names, it will be submitted to the Syura Council for endorsement before the candidate's name is finalised, he said.

"Normally, the division will send two, (or) three names. We will ask the council to check their qualifications; Pas central will then meet (and discuss) on winnability."

Nomination day has been set for Nov 18 and Nov 28 for early voting.

The by-election was necessitated after the Terengganu Election Court, on Sept 26, nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid from Pas during the 15th General Election (GE15) in November.

Che Alias won in a four-cornered contest that also involved Datuk Seri Ahmad Said of Barisan Nasional, Hasuni Sudin of Pakatan Harapan, and Rosli Ab Ghani of Pejuang.
