Bersatu to discuss Labuan MP's support for PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will hold a discussion soon to discuss Labuan member of parliament (MP) Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman, who declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the matter would also be discussed with Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs.

"We have just read the statement issued by Labuan MP, who is our friend in Bersatu and PN.

"Therefore, we will hold discussions at the party level and also with our parliament friends soon.

"I believe that the party (Bersatu) will also make a decision or announcement after the discussions have been concluded," he told a press conference in parliament today.

Wan Saiful was asked to comment on Suhaili's decision to support the leadership of the prime minister.

Earlier today, Suhaili, in a statement, declared his support for Anwar.

Suhaili said the decision was made after considering the grievances of the people in his constituency, burdened by the rising cost of living and persistent water and power disruptions.

In his statement, Suhaili also declared his support for the Sabah Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

Previously, on Oct 12, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid had, in a statement, announced his decision to support the prime minister's leadership.

He had said the decision was made after examining the continuous complaints of the voters and the urgent need to deal with the rising cost of living faced by his constituents.

The next day, opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin claimed that Iskandar Dzulkarnain was threatened and intimidated with corruption allegations if he did not support the government.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, however, dismissed the claims, saying it were nothing more than "wild accusations".
