Two ex-Umno leaders appointed as members of Pas Central Committee

KUALA LUMPUR: Two former Umno leaders -- Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim -- are among nine individuals appointed as members of the Pas Central Committee for 2023-2025.

Pas secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, in a statement last night, said that the appointments were made during the party's committee meeting yesterday.

"The appointments were proposed and approved in accordance with Articles 25 and 26 of the party's constitution.

"Other appointed committee members include Nasrudin Hassan, Mohd Yusni Mat Piah, Wan Rohimi Wan Daud, Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, Ahmad Yunus Hairi, and Mohd Mazri Yahya."

"Assistant Secretary-General 1, 2, and 3, respectively, are held by Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, Khairul Fahmi Matsom, and Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman," he added.

Annuar and Shahidan were among the Umno members whose membership was revoked at the Supreme Council Meeting of the party before the 15th general elections last year.

Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, joined Pas last June. He is also the chairman of Muafakat Nasional.

Shahidan is a personality with a big influence in Perlis as he was its menteri besar for three terms from 1995 to 2008 when he was with BN. He was elected Arau MP in the general elections in 1986, 1990, 2013 and 2018 under BN's ticket. He was expelled from Umno after contesting for the Arau parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election as a Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate when his name was not listed as a candidate. Although he defended his Arau seat with a Pas ticket, it was never clear whether he was an actual Pas member until today.
